saenggaghada (생각하다)

Complex verb

Verb meaning: THINK [think]

Comment: This is a complex predicate that consists of the noun-like element saenggag 'thought' and hada 'do'. Determining the coding pattern of this verb is difficult. There are three possibilities. The first possibility is the NOM-ACC pattern as shown here and in ex. 61. Another possibility is to encode the participant thought about with a postposition as in ex. 60. A third possibility is not relevant for the present investigation, albeit still very interesting, since the participant though about seems to be realised on the noun phrase level as a noun that builds a compound with the word saengga, with ex. 59 literally meaning 'the child had grandmother-thoughts'.
