saltare

Simplex verb

Verb meaning: JUMP [jump]

Comment: The verb saltare in its intransitive use selects the auxiliary essere 'BE' in compund tenses if the process is bounded (i.e., telic) (e.g., i ragazzi sono saltati in piedi, 'the boys are jumped in foot', 'the boys have stood up' (lit. 'have jumped up'). It selects instead the auxiliary avere 'HAVE' if the process is unbounded, i.e., atelic, the past participle reverting to the unmarked masculine singular form (e.g., i ragazzi hanno saltato sul letto, 'the boys have jumped on the bed'). This verb also allows a transitive structure.

Comment: The verb saltare in its intransitive use selects the auxiliary BE in compound tenses if the process is bounded, i.e., telic, with past particle agreement with the subject (Salvi 1988, Cennamo 1993: 36, 2011: 5).
