xiāo is used as a transitive verb in practically the same way as peel. Usually a pre-verbal PP is used to indicate other relevant information. VO construction involving xiāo can hold various semantic relationships, thus it can enter various alternations. Please note that in the BEI and BA constructions, a split VO structure is also possible when an aspectual marker le is used, mainly post-verbally.
