gěi (给)

show comment

gěi is a typical ditransitive verb and when it is used in BA or BEI constructions, an aspectual marker le is often used following either gěi or the VO structure. With the extension of the ditransitive constructional meaning, gěi has developed into not only a preposition indicating direction of transfer but also a causative marker.
