mogyoksikida (목욕시키다)

show comment

The literal meaning here is 'to make someone bath' (although it doesn't have to be a bath in a literal sense); only between persons or persons and their pets. This corresponds to mogyokhada 'to bath', although here we do not have the light verb ha- 'do' , but the lexically causative verb siki- 'cause, tell someone to do something'. This forms has not been classified as an alternation, since the variation in light verbs realising different valencies is lexicalised and does not apply regularly across the board. In other words, one cannot regularly replace ha- in all light verb constructions with siki- to receive a causative meaning.
