dowajuda (도와주다)

show comment

The form of this verb seen in more literary Korean is dobda, 'help', although here, the complex predicate that consists of dobda 'help' and juda 'give', dow-a ju-da help-CONV give-DECL has been chosen since the 'simplex' verb form is rather seldomly used in spoken language. If the beneficiary is higher on the social hierarchy or highly respected for some reason, the honorative form of this verb, dowadeurida is used. dowajuda does not seem to be a benefactive alternation of dobda, since the case frames for both verbs are the same, and no argument has been added from dobda to dowajuda.
